The Mountain Bike Team (MBSAR)
PRSAR’s Mountain Bike Unit was established to take advantage of those opportunities where a bicycle’s unique abilities will enhance the search mission. The Mountain Bike team assists and supports official PRSAR missions where rapid deployment for search and rescue services and initial medical assessments may be needed.
The Mountain Bike team complements SAR operations by providing Type 1 Hasty Patrol Searches, Containment, Area reconnaissance, movable radio relay, rapid gear movement and working with the drone team.
The Mountain Bike team is used when ground operations would be improved due to size of geographic area, population density in urban environments, and access may be restricted due to locked or blocked road access. The PRSAR Mountain Bike team assists in public education programs when requested and gladly participates in appropriate fund raising events.
The Mountain Bike teams receives training in Advanced Land Navigation, GPS, CPR/AED, Human and K9 First Aid, and NIMS, ICS. Training is set to ASTM F3175-16 and all riders pass an in house mission ready evaluation for a MBSAR endorsement.
