A Ten Year Anniversary Tribute Video To Our Volunteers!
PRSAR President Michael Hadsell
Michael Hadsell, President, Peace River K9 Search & Rescue Association, Inc.
Michael Hadsell is a dedicated search and rescue professional and the founding president of Peace River K9 Search & Rescue Association, Inc. (PRSAR), a Southwest Florida-based nonprofit serving law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and the families of the missing.
Michael's passion for search and rescue was sparked in the 1980s while living in Malibu, California, where he was invited to join a volunteer K9 team and immediately found his calling. That experience never left him. After relocating to Florida, his work caught the attention of Englewood Fire Chief Brian Gorski, who encouraged him to establish a volunteer search and rescue program. In 2005, working closely with the fire department and the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Michael founded Peace River K9 Search & Rescue.
Michael brings academic rigor to every aspect of PRSAR's operations, building the organization on adopted ASTM professional standards rather than the informal club model common at the time.
Under his leadership, PRSAR has grown into a multi-disciplinary force, fielding K9, mounted, dive, water recovery, drone, and robotics teams — all trained to the highest standards and available to respond 24 hours a day, every day of the year, free of charge. The team has also partnered with Dr. Arpad Vass of the University of Tennessee on forensic work for cold cases spanning decades, and has been deployed from Alaska to the Bahamas, Ecuador, Guatemala, Bosnia, and the Middle East.
Michael has personally navigated enormous adversity to keep PRSAR operational, including rebuilding the organization from the ground up after Hurricane Ian devastated his home and destroyed much of the team's equipment in 2022. His resilience and unwavering commitment to the mission — "So that Others may Live" — have made him a respected leader in the search and rescue community worldwide.
Michael Hadsell is not just the president of PRSAR; he is its heart — a volunteer who has given decades of his life to bringing the missing home safely.
